Places to See, Things to Do
Fly fish the North Platte or the Encampment Rivers
The North Platte, located in South Central Wyoming, has over a hundred and fifty productive miles of river. Flowing through beautiful broad canyons and gentle sloping valleys, this large river is known for its great freestone water above Seminoe Reservoir and seven miles of exceptional tail-water fishing below it, also known as the "miracle mile". Below Alcova Reservoir (Gray Reef Reservoir) is another blue ribbon tail-water section. Large browns and rainbows are prevalent throughout the fishery. Hatches on the North Platte are excellent.
The Encampment starts in Colorado, winding northwest then north, flowing through its own canyon before reaching the town of Encampment and merging with the North Platte beyond Riverside. For most of its journey, the Encampment is difficult to reach - about 10 miles of its course runs through the Encampment River Wilderness. One of the great things about this river is it's remoteness. Get yourself in the middle of this wilderness area and you can almost be guaranteed
that there will be no one elae there, and the fish are earger to please.
Soak in the Natural, Mineral "Hobo Hot Pool"
The Saratoga "Hobo Hot Pool" is a favorite among locals and visitors alike. Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and FREE to the public, the pool is owned and maintained by the Town of Saratoga. There is a brand new bath house with beautiful changing rooms with showers and bathroom facilities.
Original inhabitants of the Valley, the American Indians, used the hot springs as a neutral area and believed that the hot springs had a healing power. The hot pool averages around 106° F from its coolest part to 119° F to its warmest part of the pool. The pool is now used as a place to relax and enjoy.
The Saratoga Municipal Swimming Pool, one of the few remaining outdoor pools in Wyoming, is located adjacent to the Hobo Pool. The municipal pool is open seasonally from late May until early September.
